Dr. Sims grew up in Coeur d’Alene and counts it a great privilege to practice Orthopedics in his hometown. He graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School and gained his undergraduate degree in Zoology from the University of Idaho. As a member of the WAMI program, he attended the University of Washington Medical School. He completed Orthopedic Surgery residency at the University of Washington in 2002. After residency he gained further specialized training in an accredited Sports Medicine Fellowship with Dr. Champ Baker of the Hughston Clinic at a specialty Sports Medicine Hospital in Columbus GA. His goal was always to return home to the Coeur d’Alene area and serve his home community.
Having been a collegiate athlete, Dr. Sims has a particular interest in Sports Medicine. He understands firsthand what it is like to have an injury sideline your athletic dreams, yet also knows what hard work and determination can do in regaining your abilities. He endeavors to work with athletes to get them back to doing what they love.
Dr. Sims’ approach is to treat each patient as if they were a family member. Whether a young athlete or a grandparent that wants to stay active, he will do all he can to help with orthopedic issues.
Dr. Sims practices general orthopedics but has special interest in knee, shoulder and elbow surgery. He is board certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery.
When not practicing orthopedics, he enjoys spending time with his wife and five children.
